The 2022 start is at the Topcats Racing Team headquarters at Westcott, near Waddesdon, where you will be able to view their race preparation facilities and the range of performance cars including Marcos, TVR, Lotus and Caterham. Hot bacon rolls and coffee will be available (included in the entry cost) while you mingle with the other entrants, study the route book, fasten your rally plate to your car and set off to enjoy a route carefully chosen to suit classic cars. Navigators will find the roadbook easy to follow as you enjoy the drive through the Chiltern Hills and the Thames Valley where there are many delightful inns to be found for lunchtime refreshment. Whilst you are welcome to find your own favourite the organisers have tested many and you will find the best listed in the routebook. The finish is at Walter Rothschild’s museum, now part of The Natural History museum at Tring Park. Light refreshments will be available and the picnic area will be a great place to meet fellow entrants and chat about the events of the day. Tring Park, originally the Rothschild Estate, has some excellent walks if you need to stretch your legs after a day’s glorious days drive.
Our start facility this year is at Topcats Racing, where Charlotte and Warren Gilbert will be available to talk to you about preparing and racing their cars in the British GT series and show you their stable of high performance racecars
Topcats Racing was established in 2002 by Warren and Charlotte (nee Osborn) Gilbert, both accomplished sports car racing drivers. Since 2002, the team have competed in the TVR Tuscan Challenge and the Britcar Endurance Championship since its inaugral year in 2002 with the Marcos Mantis GT car. This was joined by a sister Mantis in 2005 and both cars were developed considerably over the years to become front running and race winning cars in the GT3 and GT Cup classes. Continuous development enables the team and drivers to stay at the top of the leader board. In 2008 the team are running what is considered to be one of the best endurance cars in the world, the Mosler MT900GT3, which will challenge the teams own Marcos for the championship title. In the past Topcats Racing have enjoyed numerous championships and successful seasons racing a variety of cars. In 2021, racing in the highly competitive GT Cup championship (with over 40 cars on the grid), driving a Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Warren won group GTC and was second overall in the Championship. Meanwhile Charlotte, driving the ever present Marcos Mantis, was runner up in the GTB class. In addition to their racing activities and car servicing, last year Topcats branched out into television, featuring in several episodes of ‘Wheeler Dealer' with Mike Brewer.
